Knowing


She was so quiet
afterward.
"I'll go first."
she had said
and took the first bite.
"What?"
you asked.
But she would not look at you.
Still you could see her eyes
and you wanted to comfort
this one, this creature
who God had made from you, this
one who God put in the garden to be with you,
this one who shared your heart.


You raised the fruit to your lips remembering
"You will surely die." Knowing
that things would be changed, forever.


And a curtain of darkness descended
over your mind, separating you
from everything. Showing you
two sides to everything.
Making everything a choice.


And you felt a cold wind on your skin
which you finally named
aloneness.
