2006 Artist Statement

In the mid 90s, I made a piece from clay slabs (a divergence from my normal method of coil building). After building the piece, I was not sure where to go with it next so it sat unfired in my studio until 2004. At that time, I was in the process of making the decision to move out of my studio of 12 years. I was also experimenting with some small cast forms. The coincident of those two things came together as a way to resolve the piece and it appeared as part of my 2004 show at Foster White.
I am now doing my clay sculptural work at the Sculptor's Workshop in Edmonds which is a community space. The move provided the impetus and opportunity to explore further the direction that was started in the original piece.
