Matthew 1:18-21 "... an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream "
Joseph
You were disappointed but resigned
when you heard that
she had been with someone else.
There would be talk,
but you would not humiliate her publicly.
You resolved to put her out quietly,
and then the dream came.
Like the ones that came before,
that had come all of your life
until people thought you were a little strange
and were scared to get too close to you
but not her, not Mary.
She was so ...
You were relieved, in a way,
that the dream had come
and so you had to ask yourself
if you hadn't conjured it up
all on your own but no,
it wasn't that kind of dream:
one you could nail down
and plane the shape of
to fit your own plan.
You taught him what you knew:
how to measure and cut,
how to join and level,
how to listen to dreams.
